AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The aims and objectives of STEPS UP involve education and empowerment. We aim to help our service users to focus on and, indeed, achieve success in:

  1.  Their day-to-day living
  2.  Their personal career plans
  3.  Enhancing their skills and abilities.
  4.  Enabling successful workforce opportunities

FOCUS:

As such, STEPS UP will focus, primarily, on four areas as follows:

EDUCATION: Comprehensive services will be available for learners to increase their education level and attain their educational goals.   Proven curriculum will be accessed, for example, as is available from the Open College Network (OCN). Professionally qualified  and skilled staff/volunteers will be utilised to provide high level services such as:

  • Reading & Literacy Support
  • Talent Management – VISION
  • Maths Support
  • English Support
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • Cookery Classes
  • Child Development/Child Care
  • Information Technology
  • Vocational Training
  • Upholstery Classes
  • Sewing/Dressmaking/Craft Classes to include:
    • Crochet
    • Knitting
    • Sewing

EMPLOYMENT: Practical employment training will be available to enable skill building, along with access to employment and growth in chosen careers. Learners will gain knowledge of their own personal goals, with an understanding of opportunities for training and work. They will also glean an holistic understanding of the recruitment process. This will involve services such as:

  • Curriculum Vitae Writing
  • Job Search Assistance
  • Vocational Training
  • Practice Job Interviews
  • Job Search Workshops

As a result, learners will be able to:

  • Investigate career goals
    • Describe the next steps to achieve personal goals
    • Identify sources of information for training and employment
    • List training opportunities
    • Outline employment options
    • Outline their personal skills
    • Identify personal information for application forms or CV
    • Describe skills and knowledge required for identified career path
    • Identify the steps to recruitment
    • Describe the importance of personal preparation for  interview
  • HEALTH & WELLNESS: Learners’ health and wellness will be considered. Services will be provided by qualified health professionals, coaches and committed volunteers. These will include:
  • Health Screenings
  • Nutrition Classes
  • Wellness Coaching
  • Mental Wellness
  • FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT: Opportunities will be provided for learners to enhance their financial literacy. This will involve workshops in:
  • Better Money Habits
    • Debt Management
    • Financial Counselling
    • Budget Workshops

STEPS UP will aim to strategically create a robust programme to foster a culture of learning to enable self-sufficiency for our service users and their families.
